Gateway Online Academy of Ohio is a Tuition-Free Virtual Public School that serves at-risk high school students through the Dropout Prevention and Recovery Program.  

Students between 15 and 21 years of age who dropped out of high school or are at risk of dropping out of high school.

How To Enroll

Step 1: Create an account for our Enrollment Portal.

  • Through the Enrollment Portal, you can complete your online application, receive real-time updates, and track your admissions status every step of the way.

Step 2: Complete admissions requirements.

  • Submit your child’s registration form and required documents using one of the convenient options below:

Step 3: Monitor your enrollment status

  • After submitting your application and required documents, continue checking your Enrollment Portal for status updates, missing items, and next steps. Our admissions team will contact you if additional information is needed.

Eligibility Requirements

Gateway Ohio serves full-time students in grades 9-12 who meet the requirements of this Policy and who are residents of the state of Ohio.

Gateway does not charge tuition or discriminate in its pupil admissions policies or practices based on intellectual or athletic ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, status as a student with a disability, or any other basis that would be illegal if used by a school district.

If you are unable to provide any of the documents listed below, please contact the Enrollment Office for assistance.

Proof of Student Identity and Guardianship

Provide a copy of your child’s birth certificate (official or hospital-issued) showing the child’s legal name, date and place of birth, and parent(s)/legal guardian(s).

If a birth certificate is not available, you may submit:

  • Proof of Guardianship (court documentation), and
  • Proof of Identity (child’s passport or birth affidavit)

Proof of Residency

Provide one (1) of the following documents showing the parent/legal guardian’s name and current residential address where the student lives. P.O. Boxes are not accepted.

Acceptable Documents:

  • Utility bill (electric, gas, water, cable) dated within the last 90 days
  • Property deed or mortgage statement
  • Lease or rental agreement showing (typically first and last page):
    • Property address
    • Lease start and end dates
    • Names and signatures of both the tenant and landlord
  • Paycheck Documentation dated within the last 90 days showing:
    • Employer name and address (or company logo)
    • Parent/legal guardian’s name and address
  • Government Document (Jobs & Family Services, Social Security Administration) dated within the last 90 Days

Immunization Record or Waiver

All public schools, including online public schools, require families to provide an immunization record or a completed exemption waiver for all students.

Academic Records for High School Students

  • Unofficial Transcript (20- and 21-Year-Old Students Only)

Special Services Documentation (If Applicable) If your child receives special education services or accommodations, please provide any available documentation, such as an IEP, 504 Plan, evaluation report, or related services plan. Submitting these documents at enrollment helps ensure a smooth transition and timely support

Additional Documentation (if applicable) 

Residency Affidavit Form: The Residency Affidavit Form is required when an enrolling family is living with a friend or relative and is unable to provide proof of residency in their own name.  To be considered valid, the following must be submitted:

  • A completed Residency Affidavit Form (must be notarized)
  • Proof of residency in the name of the homeowner or leaseholder with whom the family resides

Gateway Online Academy of Ohio does not discriminate based on disability, race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, ancestry, need for special education services, or any other grounds prohibited by law. Gateway Online Academy of Ohio serves students with disabilities and English Learners and provides services to students as required by state and federal law. In most cases, the services required by a student with disabilities can be provided at Gateway Online Academy of Ohio. In some cases, a student’s individual needs require that they be placed at different program or location as determined by an IEP or Section 504 team.

Do I have to pay anything to enroll?

Since Gateway Online Academy of Ohio is a public school, no tuition is associated with enrollment.

What grades are offered by the school?

Grades 9-12, who dropped out of high school or are at risk of dropping out of high school.

What subjects will my child take?

High school students take traditional courses.

Will my student have an Ohio state-certified teacher?

Yes, all our teachers hold current Ohio teaching credentials.
