  • strephanie gardner
    Stephanie Gardner Success Coach (10)

Hello, my name is Stephanie Gardner, and I am the 10th grade Success Coach for the 23/24 school year.  I am from Cleveland, OH, born and bred, and a product of Cleveland Public Schools. I am still very connected with my high school as the Vice President of the John Hay Alumni Association. I obtained an Associate of Applied Business (Information Technology – Information Application Specialist) from Cuyahoga Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction/Education Technology from Cleveland State University. This school year marks my 36th year in Education (YIKES)!  I love meeting and working with students. Although it can be quite challenging, the relationships I have built over the years make it worth it! I have twin sons, Jamal Austin and Jerrod Amir, and I am a caregiver for my mother, who is 92 and still loves to get in the kitchen to cook and bake for her family when she can. I love to travel when I can (although I have not been out of the country yet because I have a limit on how far I feel comfortable flying, lol). Seafood is my favorite food. I love family gatherings and love to read, but I can only do it when I have absolutely nothing else to do because nothing else gets done if I get caught up in a good book!! I LOVE ALL THE LAW AND ORDERS, CHICAGO SHOWS, AND ABBOTT ELEMENTARY.

It’s hectic at my house. I live on a farm; we currently have a ton of chickens and a cat we call Tiger. I love to garden, and we are starting to build our orchard. In my free time, I like to… well, if I had free time, I would be trying new recipes and going on adventures with my family, including big travel and mini trips. My favorite thing about our family (besides the people) is our non-negotiable rule for our travel/trips. Everyone on our trip is required to try something new. It can be a new food or experience, but something you have never done. We keep learning as a priority in our family.

    Abigail Walters School Counselor (10)

I’m your 10th grade School Counselor with Gateway Academy. I’m originally from Pennsylvania; I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, where I completed my schooling. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and a Master’s in School Counseling. After spending much time in the lab, it was clear that I was passionate about the human experience, especially connecting with others, and wanted to pivot to a more person-centered field. I moved to Ohio in the last few years with my first counseling position, and I’m enjoying it so far! One of my favorite activities is thrifting and antiquing in the city. I have a younger brother who I’m very close with, two silly cats, and a young daughter that my world absolutely revolves around. I love to travel; I studied Italian for four years when I was younger, and, as it turns out, Italy is my absolute favorite place in the world. In any free time left over to myself, I explore many hobbies that allow the freedom of creative expression. I love to paint, draw, dance, knit, write, collage, photograph, digital design, teach, and more; I’ve even written two books. New Girl is my favorite show of all time. Green is my favorite color. I collect bottle caps, bookmarks, and memorabilia from my adventures with my family. Who am I? I’m almost thirty years old and still believe in the magic in the world.

Outside of school, I love to hang out with my family, which includes two girls and two boys, ages 16, 13, 10, and 7. I also have a big German Shepherd who only loves me and an embarrassingly large number of cats. When we meet, you can try to guess how many! We are a football family! You can catch me watching my son play on his 8th grade team or at home rooting for the Browns! We stay busy with our kids’ activities, such as soccer, volleyball, football, and art. My daughters love anime and often cosplay for fun, while my sons love video games such as Fortnite, COD, and FNAF. I would love to get to know you more, too. I hope to see you in the classroom!

I am a Career-Based Intervention teacher. I earned a Master’s degree and have experience mentoring high school students. I aim to guide students to success as they transition to the workforce. Using various tools and assessments, students can identify what is a good fit for them. So, let’s start planning!

My name is (Stefanie) Rene Salyer, and I serve as an intervention specialist for Gateway Online Academy! This is my third year in education and my second time teaching in a virtual setting. I graduated from Bowling Green State University with my bachelor's in intervention and master's in special education. I am also completing an education specialist degree in behavior analysis and a graduate certificate in neuroscience. Outside of the school setting, I serve as a state-level leadership team member for the Social Emotional Learning Alliance for Ohio. When I'm not busy studying or working, you can often find me spending time with my husband and pets. My husband is also a high school educator. We love to spend our evenings exploring our community with our two pomskies. If it is the weekend, you can often find me playing one of my thirteen instruments, going on a long hike, or watching one of my favorite sports teams.

Kelly Strobel English 9/English 12 Teacher

I’m thrilled to say this is my 15th year teaching English. I grew up in North Royalton, Ohio, and graduated with an Integrated Language Arts Education degree from Ashland University in 2009. I began my teaching career in a private school in the Cleveland area before moving to Toledo in 2014, where I taught for six years in the Bowling Green City School District. For the past few years, I’ve taught virtual high school English classes for public school students throughout Lake and Geauga counties as part of the ESC of the Western Reserve. This is my first year with Gateway, and I will be teaching English 9 and English 12 and credit recovery. I now reside again in the Northeast Ohio area; I’m a casual Cleveland sports fan. Some of my hobbies include spending time with family, gardening, decorating, watching TV and movies, and reading mystery and fantasy series. My husband and I love going on vacations to Orlando, Florida, visiting Universal Studios and Disney World. I really enjoy doing anything musical, artistic, or creative. For example, I love to paint with watercolor and acrylic and design my own jewelry. I taught myself to play Taylor Swift songs on the acoustic guitar. Lastly, I know this sounds cliché as an English teacher, but my favorite activity of all is writing. It is my dream one day to become a published novelist. I am looking forward to a great school year at Gateway! I want my students to know that I support them 100%. I am always here to listen and problem-solve the best solution.  I want nothing more than to see them be successful.

I am an Intervention Specialist at Gateway Online Academy. I grew up in Wellington, Ohio, where I enjoyed spending time at the Lorain County Fair every August.  I received my Bachelor's degree at Baldwin Wallace University and my Master's Degree at Ashland University.  I have two sons. Rylan is 23 and is finishing up his last year of physician assistant grad school at the University of Mount Union, where he also attended undergrad and played soccer.  Yes, I was a soccer mom!!  My younger son Cody is 20. He just completed paramedic school and plans to become a firefighter soon. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Bob, for over 28 years!!  In my free time, I enjoy working out, taking walks in the Metroparks, golfing, and hanging out with friends and family.  My favorite sports team is the Cleveland Browns, and I hope to live long enough to see a Super Bowl Championship someday! My perfect vacation is heading to a beach.  My favorite beaches include Treasure Island and Destin, both in Florida.  What I like best about Gateway is the super-supportive staff and administration.  I also enjoy helping students achieve their goal of graduating and earning their diplomas.
